How to Set Helperbird JSON Policy in Google Admin

Your whole domain needs Helperbird Pro. One policy, set once at the top of your organizational unit tree, covers everyone.

Helperbird has to be in the Google Admin console before you can give it a policy. Add it first with install Helperbird through the Google Admin console.

Pick the Scope First

Set it wide first. A policy on your top unit reaches everyone, and any unit or group below it can be given something different later.

Set the Policy on Your Top Organizational Unit

1. Sign in to the Google Admin console (opens in a new tab) and go to Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → Users & browsers.
2. In the left panel, select the unit at the very top of the tree. It carries your domain name.
3. Select the Helperbird tile, then find Policy for extensions.

Paste this in, with your own key in place of the placeholder, then select Save.

isAdminControl has to be true or Helperbird ignores the whole block, your key included. Every other key you can add, with its type and default, is on setting Chrome storage managed keys.

How It Reaches Everyone Else

Every unit below the top one inherits what you set. You do not repeat this on each one.

Two things override it:

• A child unit with its own policy. What you paste there replaces the inherited policy for that unit and the units under it. See how to set up a child organizational unit.
• A group. For anyone who sits in a group and a unit at the same time, the group setting is the one that applies. See set the policy for a user group.

Chrome, Edge and Firefox read the policy. Safari, iPad and iPhone cannot, so people there enter a subscription key in Helperbird's settings instead.

Changing or Removing It Later

An edit at the top unit reaches everyone who inherits it, so treat any change here as a change for the whole domain.

• To move everyone off your organization key, set isAdminControl to false. Helperbird removes the key and people fall back to their own subscription, or to Free.
• To hand one unit back without changing the rest, set isAdminControl to false on that unit instead of editing the top one.

A change takes a few minutes to reach a device, and applies the next time Helperbird loads, usually the next page someone opens. When it does not show up, work through verify and troubleshoot a managed deployment.
