How to Disable the Edge Mini Menu That Appears When Selecting Text

Learn how to disable the Edge mini menu. Improve accessibility and user experience by removing the popup menu from display.

·

If you're using Microsoft Edge and see a small floating toolbar every time you select text, that's Edge's built-in mini menu. It can get in the way of Helperbird's highlight toolbar and other selection features. Here's how to turn it off.

What Is the Edge Mini Menu?

The mini menu is a small popup that Edge shows automatically when you highlight text on a page. It includes options like copy, search, and define. While useful for some people, it can overlap with Helperbird's own toolbar that appears when you select text.

How to Disable It

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Type edge://settings/appearance into the address bar and press Enter.
  3. Scroll down to the "Show mini menu when selecting text" option.
  4. Toggle it off.

That's it. The mini menu will no longer appear when you select text.

Why This Helps

With the Edge mini menu turned off, Helperbird's highlight toolbar and selection tools will have a clear space to appear without anything overlapping or getting in the way. This makes it easier to use features like highlighting, text to speech, and quick actions on selected text.

I got this tool as an extension to try out first of all. I was amazed at what it can do in terms of accessibility. I have shown my friends and brother who suffer from dyslexia and they have all downloaded the extension. Great step forward from a company looking to help people!!

I have been trying to find ways to make my child happy to go to school again, and someone recommended helperbird. She loves helperbird, and she is now much happier about the idea of returning to school. I think this might be a game changer, as they do so much web based schoolwork and research. She says they really understand people with dyslexia
