How to Use Accessibility Profiles in Helperbird

Learn how to apply one-click accessibility profiles in Helperbird for dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, Section 508 compliance, reading comfort, and motor accessibility.

·

What are Accessibility Profiles?

Accessibility Profiles are pre-built sets of Helperbird settings designed for specific needs. Instead of configuring individual features one by one, you can apply a complete profile in one click. Each profile adjusts things like fonts, spacing, overlays, zoom, and reading tools to match a particular use case.

Who is This For?

This feature is helpful for:

  • People with dyslexia who need optimized font and spacing settings
  • People with ADHD who benefit from reduced distractions and focus tools
  • People with low vision who need larger text and high contrast
  • Anyone who wants a quick starting point for accessible reading
  • IT administrators setting up browsers for accessibility compliance

Step 1: Open Helperbird Settings

Click the Helperbird icon in your browser toolbar to open the Helperbird panel.

Then click the Settings button (the gear icon) in the top-left corner of the panel.

This opens the Helperbird Settings page.

Step 2: Find the Profiles Section

Scroll down past the Account and Billing sections. You will see the Accessibility Profiles section with six profile cards arranged in a grid.

Step 3: Choose a Profile

Click on the profile card that matches your needs. The six available profiles are Dyslexia, ADHD & Focus, Low Vision, Section 508, Reading Comfort, and Motor Accessibility.

Step 4: Review and Apply

A modal will appear showing the profile name and a checklist of exactly which settings it will change. For example, the Dyslexia profile shows items like "OpenDyslexic font", "Letter spacing (3x)", and "Reading ruler".

Review the list, then click Apply.

Your settings will update immediately. A confirmation message will appear to let you know the profile has been applied.

Available Profiles

Dyslexia — Applies OpenDyslexic font, letter spacing (3x), word spacing (4x), line height (2.0), reading ruler, and paragraph width (70%).

ADHD & Focus — Enables reading mode, focus ruler, reduced motion, hides GIFs, and sets line height (1.8) and paragraph width (65%).

Low Vision — Sets text size to 24px, page zoom to 150%, enables bold text outlines, letter spacing (2x), line height (2.0), and paragraph width (75%).

Section 508 — Applies Lexend font, text size 18px, letter spacing (2x), line height (1.8), and paragraph width (80%).

Reading Comfort — Enables color tint overlay, text size 18px, line height (1.8), and paragraph width (70%).

Motor Accessibility — Enables large cursor, page zoom (125%), reduced motion, text size 18px, and line height (1.6).

Tips

  • Profiles override your current settings. If you have custom settings you want to keep, consider exporting them first from the Config section in Settings.
  • After applying a profile, you can still adjust individual settings to fine-tune things to your preference.
  • You can switch between profiles at any time. Each one fully replaces the previous settings.
  • Profiles are a great way to quickly test different accessibility configurations to find what works best for you.

Helperbird helps enhance my studying and research efforts by allowing me to add sticky notes and highlight important stuff on websites, or e-books. I can also easily remember to read articles later.

I got this tool as an extension to try out first of all. I was amazed at what it can do in terms of accessibility. I have shown my friends and brother who suffer from dyslexia and they have all downloaded the extension. Great step forward from a company looking to help people!!

I have ADHD and yesterday Helperbird and the text-to-speech function (available in free version) turned a 28-page reading assignment from a two-day task to roughly two hours, maybe three at the absolute most. It helped tremendously! And I loved that the text-to-speech has such a fluid voice compared to a lot of others I've used! Honestly, the fact that this was created by someone who knows the struggles is something I love, because then it has neurodivergency in mind. I've tried too many things in the past that were created by neurotypical folk trying to be helpful to us and I do appreciate it, but it doesn't work as well because our brains work different. Highly recommend!
