How to Use the Right-Click Context Menu in Helperbird

Learn how to access Helperbird features by right-clicking on any webpage. Use text-to-speech, translate, dictionary, and more from the right-click menu.

What is the Context Menu?

The context menu is the menu that appears when you right-click on a webpage. Helperbird adds its own options to this menu so you can quickly use features like text-to-speech, translate, dictionary, and more — without having to open the Helperbird popup first.

Who is This For?

This feature is helpful for:

  • Anyone who wants the fastest way to access Helperbird features
  • People who prefer right-clicking over opening the extension popup
  • Power users who want quick actions on selected text
  • Anyone who already uses right-click menus in their browser

Step 1: Select Text on a Webpage

Go to any webpage and use your mouse to highlight the text you want to use a Helperbird feature on. Click and drag to select a word, sentence, or paragraph.

Step 2: Right-Click to Open the Menu

With your text selected, right-click on the highlighted text. A context menu will appear. Look for the Helperbird option in the menu — it may have a submenu with multiple actions.

Step 3: Choose a Helperbird Action

Click on the Helperbird action you want to use. The feature will run immediately on your selected text.

Available Context Menu Actions

The right-click context menu gives you quick access to features including:

  • Text-to-Speech – Read the selected text aloud, with a Stop option to end playback
  • Translate – Translate the selected text to another language
  • Dictionary – Look up the definition of a selected word
  • Immersive Reader – Open the selected text in Immersive Reader

Looking for Summarize, Simplify, or Extract Text? These features are not in the right-click menu — you can find them in the Helperbird popup, and Extract Text is also available from the accessibility toolbar and the PDF reader's Tools dropdown.

Tip: The right-click context menu works alongside the Highlight Menu and the main Helperbird popup. Use whichever method is quickest for how you work. If you prefer a toolbar that appears when you select text, check out the Highlight Menu.

Brilliant extension! Have tired it for my daughter and she has come on leaps in school. While there are plenty of free features, the paid ones are only 30 USD a year. Can't recommend this enough.

I have ADHD and yesterday Helperbird and the text-to-speech function (available in free version) turned a 28-page reading assignment from a two-day task to roughly two hours, maybe three at the absolute most. It helped tremendously! And I loved that the text-to-speech has such a fluid voice compared to a lot of others I've used! Honestly, the fact that this was created by someone who knows the struggles is something I love, because then it has neurodivergency in mind. I've tried too many things in the past that were created by neurotypical folk trying to be helpful to us and I do appreciate it, but it doesn't work as well because our brains work different. Highly recommend!
