How to Set Helperbird JSON Policy for a User Group in Google Admin

Target a Google group in the Admin console instead of an organizational unit, so a Helperbird policy reaches one team, and take it back when the pilot ends.

On this page

One team needs Pro before everyone else does. A Google group gets it to them without touching the rest of your domain.

Groups or Organizational Units

Google Admin lets you target either one. A group suits a pilot, a department, or a set of students spread across several organizational units.

For someone who sits in both, the group setting is the one that applies. Google's guide to Chrome policy management (opens in a new tab) covers that ordering.

Covering everyone instead? Follow set the Helperbird JSON policy in Google Admin. Covering one person? Follow set the policy for an individual user.

Point the Console at Your Group

Groups sit outside the organizational unit tree. In Users & browsers the left panel keeps a separate Groups list, so select your group there. Add the group to that list first if it is not showing.

Once the group is selected, two settings do the work:

Check You Edited the Group

Look at what is selected in the left panel before you save. This is the mistake groups invite: edit the organizational unit when you meant the group and your group is untouched, while everyone in that unit gets a policy you did not intend for them.

To confirm it landed, and for the usual failures, see verify a managed deployment.

When the Pilot Ends

Push isAdminControl: false to the group. Helperbird drops your key, everyone in the group goes back to their own subscription or to Free, and the group itself stays where it is for the next cohort.

Ending it for one member instead? Take them out of the group. See set the policy for an individual user.

Validate Your Policy

Check your JSON in the Helperbird JSON Policy Validator before you push it to the group.

change the blur into words

Helperbird does so many things that are game changing for me! By far the two most important are the font changes and the highlight ruler. I can change fonts to something dyslexia friendly. The ruler helps me stay on the line I'm trying to read. These two things change the blur into words! Tech support has been great when I have had problems!

students to have control over the...

This is my first google review ever! I have to share that the accessibility and support for independent access for students that Helperbird provides, is a game changer. It is constantly being updated with new features based on feedback and it is extremely user friendly. The ability to customize the settings allows students to have control over their own learning, aligning with Universal Design for Learning. Looking forward to sharing with students and fellow educators on a daily basis. Thanks, Helperbird team!
