·

Overview

Helperbird lets you open, edit, and annotate PDFs directly in the browser. When you are finished, you can download the annotated PDF to your device and share it however you need — through Google Drive, email, Google Classroom, or any other platform.

Downloading Your PDF

After you have added annotations (text boxes, drawings, notes) to a PDF in Helperbird:

  1. Click the Download button in the Helperbird PDF toolbar.
  2. The annotated PDF is saved to your device with all your changes included.
  3. The downloaded file is a standard PDF that can be opened in any PDF viewer.

Your annotations are embedded in the PDF, so anyone who opens the file will see your work.

Sharing Your PDF

Once you have downloaded your annotated PDF, you can share it using any method you normally use to share files:

Google Drive

Upload the PDF to your Google Drive and share it with your teacher or classmates.

Google Classroom

Attach the PDF to an assignment submission in Google Classroom.

Email

Attach the PDF to an email and send it to your teacher or group.

Microsoft OneDrive or Teams

Upload the PDF to OneDrive or submit it through Microsoft Teams.

Any Learning Management System (LMS)

Upload the PDF to Canvas, Schoology, Brightspace, or any other LMS your school uses.

How Educators and Students Use This

  • A teacher shares a PDF worksheet with students through Google Classroom.
  • Students open the PDF in Helperbird, add their answers using text boxes or drawing tools, and use voice typing to dictate their responses.
  • Students download the completed PDF and submit it back through Google Classroom, email, or Google Drive.
  • The teacher opens the submitted PDF and sees all the student's annotations.

I have ADHD and yesterday Helperbird and the text-to-speech function (available in free version) turned a 28-page reading assignment from a two-day task to roughly two hours, maybe three at the absolute most. It helped tremendously! And I loved that the text-to-speech has such a fluid voice compared to a lot of others I've used! Honestly, the fact that this was created by someone who knows the struggles is something I love, because then it has neurodivergency in mind. I've tried too many things in the past that were created by neurotypical folk trying to be helpful to us and I do appreciate it, but it doesn't work as well because our brains work different. Highly recommend!
